Câmara Municipal de Natal institui “Comenda Cícero Onofre”, ex-presidente da ABES-RN, para homenagear ações em defesa do saneamento básico

A Câmara Municipal de Natal, no Rio Grande do Norte, aprovou o projeto de resolução do vereador Sérgio Pinheiro que institui a Comenda do Mérito Cícero Onofre de Andrade Neto, ex-presidente da Associação Brasileira de Engenharia Sanitária e Ambiental ABES Seção Rio Grande do Norte (ABES-RN) e ex- diretor nacional da entidade (o engenheiro faleceu em maio de 2017).  A honraria será concebida, anualmente, às pessoas físicas e jurídicas que, pelos seus trabalhos, estudos e dedicação, tenham se destacado por ações em defesa do saneamento básico, do meio ambiente e desenvolvimento sustentável no âmbito do município do Natal.
A entrega ocorrerá em sessão solene marcada para 05 de junho, data em que se comemora o Dia Mundial do Meio Ambiente.
A cidade de Natal cresceu em grande parte sobre uma região de Dunas, entre o Rio Potengi e o Mar, além de se encontrar toda assentada sobre a área de recarga do aquífero Dunas/Barreiras, que é o principal fornecedor da excelente água que serve ao município. A situação gera a formação de dezenas de lagoas que trazem beleza e riscos de contaminação e inundação de residências.
Sobre Cícero Onofre
O Professor Cícero Onofre de Andrade Neto graduou-se Engenheiro Civil pela UFRN, mestre e doutor pela Universidade Federal de Campina Grande – UFCG. Na sua vida acadêmica, paralelamente à docência, desenvolveu inúmeras atividades como pesquisador, tendo proferido palestras sobre os mais variados temas da engenharia sanitária e ambiental, não só no Rio Grande do Norte, como também em vários estados do Brasil e no Exterior.
Desenvolveu, ainda, numerosos escritos na área de sua especialização, com mais de 200 títulos publicados, constituindo-se em biografia digna de realce no país, inclusive dois livros solo: “Sistemas Simples para Tratamento de Esgotos Sanitários – Experiência Brasileira” e “Pesquisa referente à experiência brasileira relativa a sistemas de baixo custo para tratamento de águas residuárias: relatório final”.
Reconhecido nacional e internacionalmente como uma das maiores autoridades brasileiras no campo da Engenharia Sanitária e Ambiental, foi um cidadão de destaque na cidade.
Como técnico, foi um dos responsáveis pelo desenvolvimento tecnológico que levou a surgir o sistema condominial de esgotos implantada inicialmente nos bairros de Santos Reis e Rocas, na década de 80.
